Fossil fuels are energy sources formed from the remains of ancient plants and animals that lived millions of years ago. Over long periods, these organic remains undergo chemical and physical changes due to heat and pressure, eventually transforming into energy sources such as coal, oil, or natural gas. They typically consist entirely of hydrogen and carbon atoms, also known as hydrocarbons. Burning fossil fuels releases a large amount of CO2 and other pollutants into the atmosphere. Recent reports from 2023 have shown that 2.8 trillion USD are expected to be invested in energy globally; 1.7 trillion of this is set to be towards clean energy. This trend is set to grow, and we are seeing investment in clean energy grow larger compared to fossil fuels.
