The proportion of healthy cells in a sample relative to the total cell count. Cell viability is an important measure in a laboratory setting when researchers attempt to grow cells outside of their normal environment. Researchers may measure cell viability using special viability assays or microscopy. A low cell viability suggests the cells are ‘unhappy’ and something must be optimised to improve the cell viability.
